Triple Talaq Bill: Anniversary

Instant Triple Talaq or  talaq-e-bidat  has been banned in India since 19th September 2018. The Indian Parliament passed the bill on 30th July 2018. This act has been politically controversial with stark and unrelenting opposition from eminent political moguls. Triple Talaq is a custom of divorce unique to the Islamic community. However, Triple Talaq is uncommon in practice but ubiquitous in essence, across religions. In the  talaq-e-bidat , a man is provided with the power to divorce his wife instantaneously by saying  Talaq  thrice. For centuries, this practice has plagued women with innumerable problems with no respite for them.  Providentially, the Indian government was able to pass the Triple Talaq Bill (by popular terminology). Citing their aspirations for women empowerment and gender equality, The BJP government chanced the Triple Talaq Bill.  The Triple Talaq Bill paves the way for the Uniform Civil Code and other such liberal cust...

Are We Autistic In Our Thinking?

Autism is a state of mental activity far beyond the grasp of human knowledge. The condition shows varied outputs, but what goes on inside the autistic people is unknown to  mankind. Down Syndrome is yet another misunderstood genetic disorder. Facial disfigurement and other such defects are found in children affected by down syndrome. Here too, science cannot tell the goings-on of afflicted people.  Conservative societal norms have long shadowed stricken people and forgoed them as subhumans. As Calvin (comic) rightly put it “Some people just don’t like variety”. Due to such irrational norms, many such people have been placed on the edges of society. In this dark representation of the world, humanity lights the path. Help came to the affected community in the way of different NGOs and one of them is Sandesh(NGO). Sandesh pins the hopes and dreams of the marginalised section by giving them a purpose. Members here are shown the way to join the workforce and rise in its ranks...

Perspective: Social responsibility

'The happiest people are those who give more, not those who get more.' I have often pondered upon this old saying, and with long thought on this matter, have been enlightened with the answer. The answer is within you. Greed and jealousy have long ruled over the hearts and souls of people. But filling a bottomless hole, greed, is impossible. Social responsibility has changed that zero sum game to a positive sum one. If you give service to those in need, you get happiness and joy beyond expectations.  I learnt this basic principle from the people surrounding me, my family. They stood by those in search for support. When one in need came to our doorstep, he/she never left without ideas to change what they thought they were to what they were meant to be. My parents showed me examples of the cruel world which marginalised certain sections of society. They led me to Non Governmental Organisations(NGOs), orphanages, old homes etc. It didn't make sense at first. Why woul...
