Save Dissent NOW!

A patriot is one whose heart beats true to the country. While our archetypal vision of a patriot happens to be of pre-independence liberators and smartly dressed khaki suited army men, they happen to be a minority in the patriotic community. Howard Zinn, historian and playwright, once said: "Dissent is the highest form of patriotism." His words imply the significance of dissent in any nation. Agreeably, dissent plays a remarkably fundamental role as the guiding star of a nation's democratic polity.  The real heroes of any nation's success lie shadowed and filmed over by overhanging politicians aiming to desist dissent amongst the voters. While we continually see incumbent governments whipping out advertisement campaigns and fiery speeches for patriotism and army service, almost rarely does any incumbent parliamentarian wish for active citizen participation.  Dissenters in India who reject the incredulous proposal of the Citizenship Amendment Act of 2019, have tak...

Obituary of Secularism

Rants rose through the streets as anger was roused by a singular event in independent India's history. The youth were stimulated and enraged by this development and loudly protested to this treacherous correction. The elderly revisited their memories of fighting for India and independence. Wrath ruled the hearts of those who defended fraternity and brotherhood among all Indians regardless of religion. The military forces, as the author writes, are on standby to prevent destructive mishaps. This is the CAB (Citizenship Amendment Bill further as CAB). The NRC's big brother, the CAB is a Law (Prior to any judgement taken by the Supreme Court of India). The CAB is a discriminatory and unverified law. As per news reports of quantified data, religious determination of citizenship has prevailed in the NRC and will do so in the CAB. This subjugated factual evidence, however, has remained concealed from the public and hidden from view. Where the NRC failed, the CAB succeeds, as na...

DECODED - Divisive Statements (P2)

Humans have an inherent disorder of assuming the current speaker to be of utmost veracity with truth in every statement. This disorder has previously produced undesirable results and has been the victim of propagandistic sentiment for generations. The elites who decrypted this psychological fallacy of the multitudes have long wielded its power for malicious or selfish intentions. The Nazis, for instance, were adept at influencing public opinion of their victims (not crucial per se). For example, they tore throats, screaming and imprinting a stereotype of Jews in their citizens' minds. Donald Trump Junior is a slightly more relatable and apt example.  'We need to build a wall.'  One supports the phoney and criminal immigrants, by Republican definition, in their meticulous attempts to cross the border and take American jobs. Or one affirms the Republicans for their efforts in the creation of a wall paid for by the Mexicans. One cannot vouch for the wall and be a Democrat by...

DECODED - Divisive Statements (P1)

Divisive statements. They are ubiquitous and not specific to any particular field. However, their most explicit usage is majorly in the field of politics. Nation-wide or region-specific, these statements are cunningly crafted to shock, provoke and divide. The Britons were pioneers in the strategy of 'divide-and-rule'. These tactics are conventional methods of providing a 'stable' base to configure an electoral gain for any candidate or political party. Its extensive usage threatens the pillars of democracy and the foundations of the Constitution. To immunise the populace to reject knowledgeably the statements made for the sake of electoral glory and not for the true spirit which it withholds. Readers here is an accurate and fact-filled description and analysis of the problem we are faced by today. Political parties are, in the author's definition,  an organised group of politically motivated individuals progressing an ideology forced upon them by Adam Smith...

The Calamitous Amendment

22nd July 2019. "All those in favour? All those against?" screeched Om Birla on a microphone in the Lok Sabha. It was the Right to Information Amendment Bill of 2019.  The opposition had violently refuted the amendment bill for three days. The vote would decide the fate of Indian democracy.  On 12th October 2005 came into existence a new act enforcing our fundamental rights, The Right to Information.  Aruna Roy, the mastermind of the RTI rejoiced with her association, The Mazdoor Kisan Shakti Sangathan. The RTI was blazoned one of the planet's most exquisite democratic laws, appending India to an exotic list of transparent democratic nations. India's multitude now had access to the government's repositories and operations without the lingering road to justice via the Indian judicial system. A reply from government officials in a stipulated time duration of 30 days! For the commonality or the activists: RTI was boon. The RTI Act of 2005 imposed rigorous regul...

The NRC - A Flawed Register of Citizens

The NRC (National Register of Citizens) is a flawed process of separating genuine citizens from illegal foreign immigrants imitating citizenship of India. Introduced in the Northeast upon the arrival of the BJP to governance, it has shaken the afflicted states. The NRC may soon be upon the rest of India too. The NRC can be seen as an anti-immigration policy, favoured by the Republicans of USA. Donald Trump Jr.'s Wall strategy could analogise the NRC. While the USA attempts to demur the Mexicans from crossing borders, India does so with IDPs (Internally Displaced Personnel) and refugees (from impoverished regions in Bangladesh, Nepal etc.). Unfavoured by some and lauded by others; the practice, in essence, is democratically acceptable. As the publicly mandated government of India, the majority of the populace agrees with the true spirit of the NRC. Miserably, the incumbent government wields the NRC as a weapon. It scythes and stabs its victims, persecuting them to no avail.  ...

Economy of India: Currently

Currently, our economy is at the lower edge of the business cycle. It will have fallen to a (Moody's) forecasted growth rate of 5.8 per-cent in the fiscal year 2020. The Economy of India is currently trying to improve but remains under duress. The incumbent BJP of India has delivered an influx of legislation upon the pressing issue. From the removal of 'angel' tax to the expedited refund of GST for MSMEs, the government has procured a slew of measures for averting a profound economic slowdown. Lamentably, the government's political moguls seem not to pay much heed to the increasingly devastating problem. In their assemblies and discourses, they tend to bring about more populist ideologies in their manifestos rather than economic ones.  While the multitudes are affected by this intense situation, the publicly mandated government's regulation is proving slightly inefficient. These laws seem to protect and conserve the uppermost one per-cent of the nation. India...
