The World: A Nation Only!

'One World: One Nation'
The above statement is quixotic and high-headed (Agreeably like an assured hoax). However, all its impracticality has been ushered in by the current situation of the world. Nations and individuals who have been politically primed by divisive and nationalistic politicians tend to forget the purpose for the creation of the country - administration, protection and cultural identification.

Our world is too divided to appreciate the benefits of an earth-wide union. While previous attempts at this have been made by the global community (in puncto League of Nations, United Nations), these attempts have been substantially mellowed by the incompetence of nations. Today, the idea has vast support across borders under different monikers - World government, One World Government, One Nation etc.

The entire intricacy and operation of this colossal power can be read in books such as The Idea of World Government, Political Globalization, Global Democracy etc. However, OneWorld shall restrain itself to briefly summarizing the idea. The government would essentially subdue the powers of the subordinate nation-states. While the daily administration of regions would be under the nation-states, the essential portfolio powers (defence, finance and home ministries) would be under the jurisdiction of the world government. Essentially, a democratic system has been developed to disallow the dominance of any culture or community above others.

How? According to the preferential theory, there are two major systems to follow - World Democracy or World Communism. The latter advocates against this flaw by promoting a government which is ruled by the proletariat, which has no nationality (As of accordance to The Communist Manifesto). To add on, it states that Marxist communism is only fulfilled with the union of all nations. It reaches its true potential (So the Internationale says) when such conditions are achieved.

The former system dictates for a semi-proportional semi-electoral democracy. In this case, proportional representation is advocated for at a higher-level council. This form prevents the dominance or subordination of smaller ethnic cultures, nationalities etc.

The most prominent advantages are noticeable at first glance - non-nuclear proliferation, no war, financial backing, the rise of humanism in diplomacy (hopefully). When the nations unite, the world will awake. While the idea is still impractical, the tribulations of propagating such ideals are long past. The movements have begun to dismiss nationalism. Patriotism will endure as the new strain of support to the Earth. For the time has come to crown patriotism at the top of political virtue whilst trashing nationalism for its suspicious attitude.

OneWorld believes that One World is nearer today to a dream than a reality. However, times have changed, and will too. The crowning glory of humanity awaits it at the pulpit of a world-nation.

Math: Invention or Discovery?

Why is one plus one two? Why is anything into zero zero? Why is two to the power zero one? Any mathematician would categorically reply to you, sighing deeply, that these are axioms in math; that they’re obvious . But are they really that obvious? And what really are axioms? Most significantly, what even is math, using certainties in a world where only uncertainty is certain? Is the universe really just math, or are we being presumptuous of our talents? Was math invented, or discovered? What are axioms? Merriam-Webster defines an axiom as ‘a statement accepted as true as the basis for argument or inference/an established rule or principle or a self-evident truth/a maxim widely accepted on its intrinsic merit’. A common feature of any mathematics textbook, they are those statements which we commit to our memory without question and utilise for the rest of our lives. If you are reading this, it’s almost guaranteed that you have studied some level of mathematics (as you are literate)...

The Dawn of Isratin

‘The metaphor for Palestine is stronger than the Palestine of reality’ – Mahmoud Darwish, Palestinian Poet. Dark plumes of smoke rose in the air, heralding a doom of unendurable potency. Widow and Widower, Orphan and Vilomah, all formed in an instant – as a missile crashes into their building. They are the unwilling victims of a war they are not part of. As children cry for their dead fathers, and vice versa, who really cares about the idea of Palestine if it comes at a cost which cannot and should not be borne. Except there is no alternative. Palestinians would not hesitate to live in Israel, but they are not allowed. Persecution, oppression, execution: that is the only fate which meets those who try to cross those imaginary lines which mark Israel from Palestine. And for those imaginary lines, wars are fought, homes are ravaged and people, precious people who are born with one and only life, are killed, mercilessly, causelessly, and inhumanely.  Although many people mark...

Beyond Paradise on Earth: Kashmir

On a quintessentially frosty midwinter morning, a lone conifer stands tall, cursed with eternal greenery, looking onto the icy virgin snow by the glacial river while basking in the glory of the icy peaks behind it. This is Kashmir. Paradise on Earth. When the winter clears, the land will coruscate with its verdant scenery all around, completed by the frolicking of animals, birds, and children. Or rather, if winter clears. For the wintry dark hands of indifference, deceit, manipulation, hatred, and jealousy control Kashmir now. Where there used to be nature and villages, forming the milk of human kindness, there are now ugly machinated military camps and their soldiers, forming the dung of inhumanity. Where there once was heaven, there now is hell. Kashmir is a land that has been long embroiled in the Indian subcontinent’s gratuitous power struggles. These struggles and their subsequent pyrrhic and temporary victories have extracted a heavy toll from Kashmir. Who can we possibly blame f...
